Abstract

Liver transplantation is the indicated procedure for patients with end-stage liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liver disease. Brazil occupies the second position in the world in absolute number of liver transplants. In the perioperative period, many patients undergoing liver transplantation experience Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), characterized by the sudden decline in kidney function. In a study carried out at the Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo (HC-FMUSP), among 139 transplant patients, the incidence of ARF was 78%. Of the patients who had a kidney problem, 49% needed hemodialysis. The objectives of this study will therefore be to assess the incidence and prevalence of AKI in peritransplantation of the liver; assess causes and risk factors for the development of ARI; study the stages of ARF and progression or not to chronic kidney disease in 1 year; to assess the impact of ARF on mortality and graft loss, shortly after peritransplantation and up to 1 year after liver transplantation.
