Abstract

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a severe inflammatory skin disease characterized by chronic recurrent lesions, nodules, fistulas and abscesses, which often manifest on the scalp, neck, armpits, perineum and inframammary areas. The etiology of HS is not completely elucidated, but it is known to be a multifactorial disease involving genetic factors, immune dysregulation, bacterial colonization, comorbidities and lifestyle. The aim is to evaluate the effects of photobiomodulation on pain modulation and inflammatory signs present in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa and the effects on quality of life. This is a prospective cohort study conducted at the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of the Hospital de Clínicas of the State University of Campinas. The data will be analyzed according to the evolution of the lesion, initially obtained at the consultation, and then entered into Excel for Windows/XP®. A descriptive analysis will be carried out on categorical variables, with frequency tables and measures of position (mean, median, minimum, maximum) and dispersion (standard deviation) for continuous variables. Longitudinal regression analysis using the generalized estimating equation will be used to analyze changes in test scores before treatment, immediately after treatment and at 3 months. All treated anatomical sites (axilla, groin and inframammary) will be grouped for the analysis. A kappa reliability analysis will be carried out to determine consistency between the blinded experts who will evaluate the photographs. A significance level of 5% will be adopted.
