Abstract

Cancer is a disease that accounts for more than 12% of the causes of death worldwide. Part of the recommended treatments for this disease are therapies using drugs such as cisplatin and 5-Fluoracil (5-FU). This treatment is aggressive for the patient with several side effects due to their low selectivity. In this project, we propose to synthesize and characterize iron II complexes containing ligands with potential anticancer activity thiadiazole (TD) and thiosemicarbazone (TSC) in the coordination sphere ([FeII(TD)3](ClO4)2) and [FeII(TSC)2 ](ClO4)2, with thiosemicarbazone being derived from 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, known as vanillin, and another from 2-pyridine-carboxaldehyde. These new compounds will be tested for their cytotoxic activities using human cell lines MCF7 (ATCC HTB-22, breast carcinoma) and non-tumor cell lines (MCF-10A)
