Abstract It is proposed the study of a short list of words, which could configure, according to Brazilian Portuguese, as semantic calques, but are originated in the English language. Such suspicion arises when the same terms, used with other meanings in previous contexts, appear in the social networking technology field with a new aception given by bilingual speakers through associations (MANZOLILLO, s.d). Moreover, for these lexical unities already occur in the adoptive language, they may have been incorporated into vernacular speech as autogenetic terms, that is, "words that do not contain any element from another linguistic system, either in the expression or on the content plane" (VIARO; BIZZOCHI, 2016, p.588). It is important to highlight that, accordingly to the adopted terminology, which sets fluid limits between autogenetic and alogenetic terms, calques are alogenetic words. Examples of the same calques in other languages are also to be given, since the breath of the social networking field is under the influence of English as a Lingua Franca (JENKINS, 2007). Etymology and etymon are aimed, as well as the words' aceptions. | |
