Abstract

The post-pandemic situation boosted the world's energy demand, increasing challenges and therefore requiring more attention towards the energy transition. Thus, the use of fossil fuels remains the main energy source globally, leading to elevated carbon dioxide emissions and contributing to climate change. Improving carbon capture and utilization (CCU) techniques is urgent in this context. Cobalt-based catalysts have been shown to be promising in the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2, especially when paired with carbon species or N-doped carbon matrices. A few studies have investigated how this chemical environment affects the activity and selectivity of the reaction. Therefore, the aim of this project is the controlled synthesis of cobalt-based materials enveloped in N-doped carbon structures in the conversion of CO2 into value-added products.
