Abstract

The generation and use of reactive intermediates are well suited to continuous flow processing due to the ability to scale up reactions, confine toxic and hazardous reagents, and allow the heating of solvents beyond their respective boiling points. In previous work, we explored the chemistry of acyl ketenes, generated from 2,2,6-trimethyl-4H-1,3-dioxin-4-one (TMD) under continuous flow reaction conditions and the system developed was capable of enabling a wide range of applications of these acylketene intermediates. To continue this work, and explore the application of the conditions developed, we propose in this subproject the synthesis of libraries of butenolides and cadiolides in an integrated process under reaction conditions in a continuous flow regime.
