Abstract

Caffeine is used to attenuate neuromuscular fatigue in several sports. However, the literature is still ambiguous about the benefits of caffeine on neuromuscular fatigue and few studies have investigated about how in a stressful situation that causes central fatigue the caffeine acts on the behavior of neuromuscular fatigue kinetics recovery. The aims of the study is investigate whether after the induction of central fatigue the acute caffeine supplementation accelerates the neuromuscular fatigue kinetics recovery during a high-volume exercise. Physically active individuals of both sexes between 20 and 30 years old will be submitted to central fatigue induction by conditions of normoxia, low and high hypoxia during a exercise on a stationary bicycle. Then, they will be supplemented with caffeine or placebo, and after 60 minutes they will perform a exercise on a cycle ergometer for 40 minutes. Saliva samples will be collected to characterize the sample by the polymorphisms in the CYP1A2 and ADORA2A genes, which will be analyzed by the PCR-real-time technique. Before and after the induction of central fatigue, immediately post- exercise and 6 h post-exercise will be applied the neuromuscular assessments, memory tests and a mood questionnaire. Also, the memory will be evaluated every 10 min during the exercise and the neuromuscular fatigue will be analyzed every 5 min during the exercise, and every 1 h post-exercise until completing 6 h post-exercise.
