Abstract

Little is known about periapical lesions microbiota, resistome, and mobilome. This study aims to collect all available data from next-generation sequencing of periapical lesions of endodontic origin, analyze them in silico for taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity, conduct a functional study of the microbial community, and assess the mobilome and resistome using bioinformatics tools. For that, online databases will be searched for sequences originating from next-generation sequencing of periapical lesions. The obtained sequences will be analyzed based on their type, either amplicon or metagenomic, after their quality has been evaluated. Amplicon sequences will be evaluated for taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity and functional prediction of the microbial community. Metagenomic sequences will be investigated for the assessment of the microbiota along with genetic prospecting to evaluate the mobilome and resistome. Diverse genes can potentially confer antibiotic resistance, and understanding the mobilome and resistome in periapical lesions will confer a new look into the treatment of this disease.
