Abstract The Castelhanos Extractive Reserve is located in Ilhabela, in the northern coast of São Paulo state. Since August 2022, the people from this region have been experiencing insecurity due to the fact that the Extractive Reserve might lose its status because of the Law n. 1.546/2022 which extinguished it, without taking into account the opinion of residents, as well as without carrying out a technical study. Therefore, the Court of Justice of São Paulo suspended the revocation, in addition to granting an injunction for the unconstitutionality of the act. In the meantime, as the Castelhanos traditional community awaits a decision, they are facing uncertainty about the future of their territory. Therefore, this ethnographic study is expected to analyze residents' perceptions on the subject, in addition to understanding how they historically relate to the environment and how it is connected to the preservation of the ecosystem. | |
