Abstract

This project aims to investigate how women's suffrage and political rights, in general, influenced post-World War II democratic transitions in Latin America, with a focus on the cases of Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. The research intends to build a detailed database on the provisions of electoral codes and which citizens had the right to vote in each country. The justification is based on the importance of political rights for the construction of participatory and inclusive democracies (Dahl, 1997), including women's participation, and how these factors shaped democratic transitions in the region.
