Abstract

The use of organic components is a new approach to control dental erosion. Recombinantly produced proteins from sugar cane (CaneCPI-5) and MaquiBerry (MaquiCPI-3) have been shown to protect this tooth wear, as well as a peptide from Estatherin and the use of commercial Hemoglobin. Most of these studies were carried out using in vitro and in situ protocols. However, the development of in vivo protocols is extremely important to confirm the protection and clinical application of these treatments, aiming to target new dental products. Thus, the objective of this study will be to evaluate the protective effect of mouthwashes containing proteins/peptide (CaneCPI-5, MaquiCPI-3, Estatherin, and Hemoglobin), alone or in combination through acquired pellicle engineering for the protection of initial dental erosion in vivo. Fourteen participants will be selected. The study will be crossover and double-blind in 7 phases: 1- Deionized water (negative control); 2- Commercial solution with SnCl2/NaF/AmF (800 ppm Sn+2 2,500 ppm F-, pH 4.5, Erosion Protection®; 3- CaneCPI-5 0.1 mg/mL; 4- 0.5 mg/mL MaquiCPI-3; 5- 1.0 mg/mL Hemoglobin; 6- StN15pSpS 1.88 x 10-5 M Estaterin Peptide; 7- Combination of proteins/peptide. In each phase, the following procedures will be performed on the central incisors upper and vestibular: prophylaxis, initial analysis of surface reflection intensity (SRI) with the Reflectometer Optipen, treatment with mouthwash (10 mL, 1 min), formation of the acquired enamel pellicle (2 h), erosive challenge ( 10 µL of 1% citric acid, pH 2.5 for 10 s) and final analysis of SRI. The acid will be collected and analyzed using the Arsenazo III colorimetric method. The values obtained by SRI will be calculated (%SRI = (SRIfinal / SRIinitial) × 100). Finally, the data will be checked for normality and homogeneity, to use the appropriate statistical test (parametric or not, considering p<0.05).
