Abstract

Children's literature books constitute one of the cultural productions in the vast field of art, being a fundamental part of human intangible heritage. In the school context, they have historically been appropriated as fundamental resources for teaching knowledge in general, favoring the development of children, in its most diverse areas. Unfortunately, such works are often understood as a mere didactic manual or as just an adaptation of stories for the adult public, with an adult-centric perspective, searching for morals that are often dubious and that devalues childhood as an important phase of development. This project aims to problematize the censorship of children's books in Brazilian schools, considering this act of banning a disqualification of reading as an essential human right for human creative and imaginative activity. From this perspective, the aim will be to revisit the history of the formation of reading in Brazil, understanding the act of censorship of children's books as an obstacle to the implementation of a project for the integral formation of citizens. With this problem, it will be possible to identify what types of impacts are being produced in schools with the loss of cultural memory of authors of vetoed books and which themes have been removed from the school institution.
