Abstract

Sickle cell disease is one of the most common genetic illnesses in the world. Hearing impairment in this population can occur due to a possibility of the cochlea to vasocclusion which can lead to cochlea ischemia and anoxia. The project aims at investigating audiological evaluation results and the inhibitory effect of the efferent pathway in individuals with sickle cell disease. The research will be carried out using basic audiological evaluation procedures, including otoscopy, pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, acoustic immittance measurement and suppression effect. Individuals who present sickle cell disease over 6 years old of both sexes will be selected. The results will be analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics.
