Abstract

Post-translational modifications, such as ubiquitination and ADP-ribosylation (the addition of ADP-ribose units catalyzed by enzymes of the PARP family), have a central role in cellular signaling cascades, such as DNA damage repair or the innate immune response. The PARP9/DTX3L heterodimer possesses both ADP-ribosyltransferase and E3 ubiquitin ligase activity and has been implicated in DNA repair pathways and the cellular response to viral infections. However, its molecular function remains poorly defined. Therefore, our aim in this study is to elucidate the cellular role of the PARP9/DTX3L heterodimer.
