Abstract

The transformations of Information and Communication Technologies during the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century led to a concern with the representation and presentation of information, especially after the emergence of the Web: in it, information is not only found in static modalities, but presents become dynamic and hypertextualized. Thinking strategically about such challenges implies creating an opening for the collaboration of communities of interest in identifying objects, through collaborative processes such as Folksonomy. To think about such transformations, especially in the museological context, it is also necessary to converge concepts, methodologies and techniques of Information Design and Digital Curation, due to the challenges that emerge in the process of digitalization and availability of collections on the Web. In this sense, this research questions: How can Folksonomy be converged in the Information Design processes? What are the convergences between Folksonomy, Information Design and Digital Curation? How can Folksonomy, Information Design and Digital Curation be applied in practice to museum collections? In which actions of the Digital Curation Lifecycle does Folksonomy apply? How can Digital Curation, understood as a continuous and complex process, assume a collaborative perspective? The thesis defended in this research considers a new perspective: the inversion of the traditional processes of Digital Curation actions. This is because collaborative actions can constitute a large part of the actions of the Digital Curation Life Cycle. Bearing in mind that the relationship between preservation and access in Digital Curation can occur in two ways: one can preserve digital objects and then provide access; or, alternatively, access can provide for the preservation of digital objects. The research is justified by the contemporary need for approximation between communities of interest and museums; due to the fact that the use of Folksonomy proposes new ways of creating, accessing, sharing and processing information from museum collections on the Web. The overall objective is to analyze the possibilities of applying Folksonomy converged to Information Design and Digital Curation in digital environments of museums. The specific objectives are: to build a theoretical framework on the convergence of Folksonomy with Information Design and Digital Curation in digital museum environments from the point of view of Information Science; exploratory analysis of initiatives in which there is convergence between Folksonomy and Digital Curation and Folksonomy on the Web, in order to propose a new perspective of the actions of the Life Cycle of Digital Curation and the practical use of the result of Folksonomy; propose the creation of a collaborative digital environment for museum collections that brings together elements of Folksonomy, Information Design and Digital Curation. This research is of a qualitative nature, and as for its typology, it is classified as theoretical and exploratory. Design Thinking will be used as a method.
