Abstract

Anna Freud left an important legacy of knowledge by combining psychoanalysis and education to understand the world of children. However, the author and (part of) her work suffer from a certain forgetfulness and neglect in the present day, lacking significant visibility in Brazil. She is commonly recognized as Sigmund Freud's daughter who studied the Ego defense mechanisms, which limits her ideas and work. Anna Freud was a prominent psychoanalyst and educator of the 20th century, known for her pioneering work in the development of child psychoanalysis and her numerous reflections on the relationships between it and school and parental education. Accordingly, this doctoral project aims to revisit Anna Freud's works, with an emphasis on her writings regarding the connections between her theory and the field of education. The objective is to investigate and understand her contributions to the educational field and examine them in a critical and contextualized way within the perspective of Cultural History. This work also aims to enhance the visibility and access to Anna's legacy in Brazil by translating specific texts by the author. Therefore, this research advocates the necessity of revisiting classic authors who have been forgotten to an extent and defends the importance of the relationship between psychoanalytical and educational knowledge for the development of individuals and civilizations.
