Abstract

The ban on the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in animal production has driven researchers and industry to seek alternatives for these products. In addition, the call for the sustainability of animal production systems and the advent of precision animal nutrition lead the entire production sector to wake up to the search for new compounds that can replace performance-enhancing antibiotics in an efficient and sustainable way, without causing possible risks to animals and humans. From this point of view, functional oils stand out for having a unique antimicrobial capacity, acting as modulators of intestinal microbiota and immune system enhancers. Among these functional oils, pracaxi and copaiba oils, both of Amazon origin, have interesting antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power. In this context, this project aims to apply a non-targeted metabolomics approach to investigate the blood and liver metabolite profiles of Japanese quails fed pracaxi and copaiba oils as a substitute for antibiotic growth promoters.
