Abstract

In this project, we will study how realistic choices of unpolarized and partially polarized light can enhance the frustration of magnetic systems. We will consider the Floquet engineering of realistic models for materials that are candidates to realize the Kitaev spin liquids: the ruthenates and iridates. We will consider how the magnetic exchange couplings can be modified according to the choice of polarization and study the choices that maximize the possibilities of getting different types of spin liquids. We will also analyze the processes that can lead to radiation absorption, possibly heating the system, and how to avoid them. Finally, we will explore the quantum limit of light and study how it can be used to tune frustrated magnets.
