Abstract

The main objective of this BEPE project is the on-site study of feather art objects preserved in the collection gathered during ARF's (1783-1792) Philosophical Journey at the Museum of Sciences of the University of Coimbra. The study will enable direct contact with the pieces and the museum cataloging practice. It is also essential to survey inventories and other documents such as iconographies, exhibition catalogs, etc., in order to deepen the methodology and analyses produced in the first year of the Master's research.There are a total of 29 objects that will be cataloged based on the works of Hartmann (1983) and Ribeiro (1988), aiming to investigate the various techniques of weaving, meshing, and feather tying in the objects. The collection is only available through a physical catalog organized by Soares and Ferrão (2005). However, the photographs and descriptions are not sufficient for the more in-depth and detailed study of the Master's research: "Feather Arts from the collection of Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira at the Museum of Sciences of the University of Coimbra" (process number: 2023/04130-8.
