Abstract

Evening primrose oil (EPO) is marketed as a rich source of n-6 fatty acids, compounds that play crucial role in the synthesis of anti-inflammatory metabolites and in the composition of the plasma membrane. Supplementation with EPO is directly associated with the reduction of symptoms in atopic dermatitis, an extremely debilitating dermatological disease with high prevalence globally. However, its low bioavailability, a characteristic that vegetable oils tend to exhibit, mitigates the pharmacological activity of these compounds. The nanoemulsion will be employed as strategy to overcome this problem. Thus, this project aims to prepare, optimize, and evaluate the physicochemical characteristics of evening primrose oil nanoemulsion intended as an adjuvant in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. To achieve this, the following assays will be conducted: nanoemulsion preparation, physicochemical characterization, and alternative toxicity test using Galleria mellonella larvae.
