Abstract

Sexuality is a field of dispute between several social devices that attempt to control and regulate sexual manifestations according to their moral values. Sigmund Freud found that the repressive effects of controlling sexual life are central factors in the process of psychic illness. Sexuality occupies a privileged position in this theory, as it is related to the constitution of the psyche. The french psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan took up sexuality in his work, relocating it to the field of desire and developing the repercussions of this postulate. It is possible to deepen the relationship between sexuality and desire through the objet petit a, the object of desire. The objet petit a was presented for the first time in Lacan's Seminar X, treated from the perspective of the object of desire. Later, in Seminar XVI the author presented a new function of this object: the surplus of jouissance. This made it possible to study new relationships between this object and other psychoanalytic notions, such as jouissance and the field of language, as well as the differentiation between the neurotic and perverse structures. The importance of Seminar XVI in its relationship with sexuality is due to the relevance of the themes in Lacan's work and the psychoalitics historical context in which it was written. Considering all these aspects, this project aims to investigate the use of the sexual and sexuality in Lacan's "The Seminar of Jacques Lacan: Book 16". This research has a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive design that seeks to work on theoretical and conceptual aspects of the selected passages. The method of analysis selected is content analysis and the results will be discussed by means of a narrative review of the literature based on the themes found together with the thematic categories formulated.
