Abstract

This post-doctoral research contributes to the Project "Global cars: a transnational urban research on vehicle informal economies" and proposes an analysis of quantitative data on second-hand vehicle and auto parts market in Europe, West Africa and America. This Project intents to contribute to a recent debate on automobiles and the automobility regime in contemporary, through an analysis focused on themes that received little attention in previous studies. Very little attention has been given to the informal/illegal markets involved in car acquisition and consumption in urban territories in Global South. These economies assume transnational proportions, and also have significant local impacts. More specifically, this project intends: i) To program, collect and organize different quantitative and cartographic databases; ii) To integrate diverse primary and secondary data sources, encompassing both quantitative and qualitative dimensions, but also producing original data; iii)To map and analyze the transnational networks involved on second-hand vehicles and auto parts market in Europe, West Africa and America.
