Abstract

This project aims to develop a nanoparticle as a carrier of the drug albendazole for application in parasitic treatment in tilapia Oreochromis niloticus from fish farming. Initially, aiming to familiarize the IC student with the different groups of parasites and training in morphological and molecular characterization techniques and parasite-host interaction, ornamental fish (for example Corydoras sp.) will be analyzed. Therefore, there will be morphological, ultrastructural and molecular analyses, using light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and molecular techniques such as PCR and sequencing, as well as phylogenetic analyses. The nanoparticles will be produced with the biopolymers chitosan and alginate through the complex coacervation preparation process with different concentrations of the drug. The material will be obtained in solution and then in powder form by freeze-drying. The different formulations will be administered orally to tilapia for treatment effectiveness and toxicity studies. Treatment will be evaluated by parasitic indices and toxicity by intestinal histology and immunohistology and hemato-immunology.
