Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common type of oral cancer and has an increasing incidence in many countries. Despite the advances in the understanding of the disease, the survival rate has not shown significant improvement in recent decades and there are still no reliable prognostic markers that can indicate the outcome and guide a better response to therapy. Tumor-related factors that may be valuable as prognosticators for lymph node metastases and patient outcomes have been investigated. Some studies indicate that stromal characteristics could potentially predict the occurrence of lymph node metastases, such as lymphatic vessel density and blood density. The expression of some immunohistochemical markers such as D240, CD105, and CD31 has been studied, but with incipient data. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the immunohistochemicalexpression of D2 40 (po doplanin)doplanin), CD31 and CD105, related to lymphatic andblood vascular microdensity, concerning survival in cases of intraoral CEC . To this ,clinical and sociodemographic data and blocks of SCC biopsies attended at the OralPathology and Orocentro services of FOP UNICAMP will be collected andimmunohistochemical reactions will be performed. This is a sample of 57 paraffincases/blocks (sample calculation was performed with G* with completeclinical information available in the services, between the years 2014 and 2018.Correlations between the immunohistochemical expression of the markers andcharacteristics of the patients will be analyzed with the chi square test or Fisher'sexact test for categorical variables. It will be considered p<0.05 as significant. Thesurvival curves will be constructed based on the Kaplansurvival curves will be constructed based on the Kaplan--Meier method and Meier method and compared with the Logrank test. For the multivariate survival analysis, the Cox compared with the Logrank test. For the multivariate survival analysis, the Cox regression model will be used. regression model will be used. The significance level will be set at 5% (P< 0.05).
