Abstract

The project, associated with the LabCidade/FAU-USP Eviction Observatory, aims to map, monitor and analyze ongoing displacements and evictions in the city of São Paulo. To this end, it combines qualitative (collaborative mapping) and quantitative (web scraping) mapping methods, together with cartographic and infographic production, so that specific case situations can be observed (characterization of those removed, violence, rights violations and agencies), as well as broader dynamics associated with spatial restructuring through territorialization, analysis of spatial concentration and the temporal evolution of eviction and repossession sentences. Its broader background is the transformations in the dynamics of capital reproduction through urban space, in particular real estate production and appreciation, driven by financialization and placed under new paradigms with the advent of neoliberalism, as well as the process of restructuring of the State in progress.
