Abstract

The pulp industry produces a large amount of waste. The improper disposal of these materials generates impacts on the environment. Stabilization with the addition of eucalyptus chip ash (ECC) from the pulp industry can improve soil properties. Mineral additions of siliceous materials may have the following characteristics: pozzolanic, cementitious or filler (filling pores). The objective of this research is to evaluate the mineralogical composition and the effect generated by the addition of SCC in the stabilization of a lateritic soil in the municipality of Ilha Solteira (SP), as well as to analyze the possible improvement in the quality of this soil and its application in road pavements. Specimens will be molded without the addition of ash and with 10% and 20% addition in relation to the dry weight of the soil. Both for the soil and for the ash, physicochemical characterization tests will be carried out. The soil will be subjected to the immersion mass loss test for the MCT classification. Then, the specimens will be subjected to the mini-Proctor test, to obtain the maximum dry apparent specific mass and the optimal moisture content. Then, simple compressive and tensile strength tests by diametrical compression, water absorption, mini-CBR with immersion and expansion tests will be carried out, to compare the data obtained, through graphs and tables, in addition to studying the reactivity and cementing properties generated by the ashes and the significant effect they will provide to the soil. Finally, it will be evaluated whether there was an increase in the carrying capacity with the addition of residues and the feasibility of applying gray soil in road paving.
