Abstract

This doctoral project articulates an intersection between cultural, post-colonial studies and Hip-Hop studies in the field of contemporary sociology. Therefore, the research aims to analyze how Afro-diasporic and indigenous peoples' experiences relate to Hip-Hop culture movements that occur in territories in the Brazilian Amazon region. To this end, content from audiovisual productions will be investigated, available on digital platforms, such as those of the RaP group Máfia Nortista, rapper Victor Xamã, artists Kaê Guajajara and Brisa Flow. And, in addition, events from different locations will be observed, such as the Battle of BK, the RaP Amazônia Show, the Battles of the Belém circuit, the Battle of São Luís, the Kebrada Festival and the Battle of RaP Macapá. There is the hypothesis that, when seeking freedom, democracy and justice, these experiences end up bringing together the struggles, strategies and tactics of different social and ethnic groups and, with this, these movements would be proposing a "new humanism" that points to rescue and healing self and belonging groups. Therefore, questions arise: how have Afro-diasporic and indigenous agendas been incorporated into artistic productions and RaP events emerging in the Brazilian Amazon region? What ancestral cultures and knowledges of original peoples started to echo and reflect in these cultural movements originating from the African Diaspora, which emerge mainly in urban centers? What is the role of people who participate in an engaged way in the political agendas of these movements? The research will seek to carry out digital content analysis and participant observation, through ethnography and ethnocenology, based on post-colonial theory, cultural studies and Hip-Hop.
