Abstract

Although assistive technology devices (foot orthosis, submalleolar, supramalleolar and suropodal orthosis) are frequently indicated during the rehabilitation treatment of children and adolescents with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT), there is a lack of scientific evidence describing their contribution to the physical function of these patients. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of immediate and delayed use of assistive technology devices on the physical function of children and adolescents with CMT. In this longitudinal study, 30 children and adolescents diagnosed with CMT will be included. Each pacient will use a personalized assistive technology device for a period of thirty days. Patients will undergo two assessments Av-UsoImed (on the first day of using the device) and Av-UsoTard (after an approximate period of 30 days using the device). In both assessments, the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Pediatric Scale (CMTPedS) functional tests will be performed: jumping, 6-minute walk and Bruininks-Oseretsky Test. The tests will be carried out in the condition without orthosis and with orthosis. For statistical analysis of the data, a descriptive analysis will be carried out, displaying the frequency, mean, median, minimum and maximum observed values.
