Abstract Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disease, characterized by exposure to very high levels of LDL-cholesterol (LDL-c) throughout life and premature coronary heart disease. The clinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk calculation scores used in the general population are not capable of correctly estimating the risk of FH, since they underestimate these values. In this context, specific clinical risk prediction scores were developed for populations carrying the FH mutation. Among them are SAFE HEART, MONTREAL and FH-Risk Score. Thus, there is a great need to validate risk scores in other FH cohorts. However, validation in cardiovascular events requires a cohort of significant size and long follow-up time, so one way to approach the issue would be to demonstrate the association of these scores with a surrogate marker of coronary event. In this context, coronary CT angiography can be used as a surrogate risk marker. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association of these scores with subclinical coronary artery disease assessed by coronary CT angiography in a FH cohort with molecular diagnosis and no previous cardiovascular event. | |
