Abstract

This doctoral research aims to link the comparative analysis of case studies on community responses to Covid-19 by an international partnership to the decolonization movement that has been underway in global health over the last three years. In the form of a collection of articles, the thesis will contextualize this movement in relation to the interaction between global health and post-colonial critique more broadly; it will introduce the central theoretical hypothesis of bringing together the principles of decolonization and democracy as a way of giving vent to the movement's impetus for institutional change; and it will look at the partnership's cases from this theoretical-normative framework. The research internship at the University of Toronto under the supervision of the international coordinator of the partnership will favor dialogue with the teams responsible for the cases and the consolidation of the theoretical hypothesis due to the strong presence of the theme in that intellectual environment and the privileged interlocution of the supervisor with critical studies of global health, in general, and initiatives of the decolonization movement, in particular.
