Abstract

It is well established that the formation of oronasal structures is directly related to correct respiratory flow. Therefore, there is a confluence between mouth breathing and the structures of the upper airways due to several factors that can influence snoring and, above all, the quality of sleep. Therefore, the present research project aims to obtain more concrete information about the relationship between mouth breathing and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children, since this, despite its importance, is still a topic that is rarely studied. consistent in the literature. To this end, the methodology will be used to create an umbrella review which, through the critical selection of articles from systematic reviews and meta-analysis present in the Pubmed, Scielo and VHL databases, should condense different results into a comprehensive analysis of literature, using research quality assessment tools, statistical analysis and recognition of inconsistencies in the included articles. Thus, it is expected to provide the scientific community with more tangible data on the prevalence, risk factors, effects on craniofacial development and possible interventions for OSA and mouth breathing in children.
