Abstract

Introduction: Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD) is a type of liver disease caused by alcohol abuse, whose condition can vary from mild and asymptomatic, characterized by steatohepatitis, to advanced, with alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis. This more aggressive form currently represents one of the highest frequency of liver transplantation (LT) in the world, representing an extremely important topic for health management. In addition to the impairment of liver function, this disease is combined with comorbidities resulting from the complex interaction between alcoholism and liver disease, whose early detection and management are essential for better rates predicted pre-, intra- and post-operatively. ALD, therefore, represents an important object of study, due to its great socioeconomic impact and its complexity in relation to patient management, determining optimistic prognoses. Objectives: Will be evaluated (1) the frequency in which DHA constitutes an indication for HT; (2) the clinical-epidemiological profile of patients listed for LT due to ALD and mortality on their waiting list; (3) the pattern of alcohol consumption before transplantation and the period of abstinence for the surgical procedure; (4) the post-transplant survival of these patients compared to other etiologies; (5) the prevalence of cardiovascular and nutritional comorbidities after LT compared to other etiologies. Methods: Retrospective study, based on a review of medical records of patients treated at the liver transplant outpatient clinic of the Clinical Hospital of the Medical College of Ribeirão Preto-USP (HCFMRP-USP).
