Abstract

The execution of this project is motivated by the importance of validating the accuracy and reliability of hydrological parameter estimates obtained through the SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) satellite, a new instrument that aims to address significant gaps in data availability essential for the monitoring and management of water resources. Therefore, the primary objective of the study is to evaluate the SWOT instrument's ability to determine the water level and flooded area of a reservoir in the interior of São Paulo, specifically the Broa Reservoir, which is largely located in the municipality of Itirapina-SP. The data used will include vector and pixel data provided by SWOT, water level data obtained by telemetry from the local fluviometric station, and high-resolution images from the PlanetScope satellite. These images will be used to identify flood areas, which will then be compared with areas obtained from SWOT data using geoprocessing tools and operations (union, intersection, and difference) in QGIS 3.28.15 software. The comparison of SWOT water level data with telemetry data will be conducted using statistical tests such as the paired t-test, correlation, and linear regression to verify data accuracy and consistency. The study aims to significantly contribute to the validation of SWOT satellite data, which can enhance water resource management and provide an effective tool for monitoring water bodies.
