Abstract

The increasing importance of employing Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the transportation infrastructure sector is primarily due to its potential to improve factors such as efficiency in design, execution, and maintenance, as the technology prioritizes collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, aiming to enhance sustainability aspects of the process as well. In the Brazilian context, where the transportation sector plays a vital role, the adoption of BIM presents opportunities and challenges. The three main opportunities are optimizing collaboration and integration, improving decision-making and cost control, and managing asset lifecycle and performance. Despite the benefits, challenges such as lack of standardization, skills shortages, and technological infrastructure limit its implementation. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the adoption and implementation of BIM in the transportation infrastructure sector in Brazil, comparing it with other countries and empirically evaluating its implementation by companies and the experience of sector professionals. The proposed methodology includes a systematic literature review, interviews with sector professionals, and dissemination of results through publications in journals and presentations at academic events. As a result, this study intends to contribute to the understanding of the current state and challenges of BIM implementation in the transportation sector in Brazil, providing insights for policymakers, sector professionals, and academics.
