Abstract

The "communicate science" project, promoted by the São Paulo Research Foundation - FAPESP, has as general objective the dissemination of scientific works to the public, through the creation of media. When presenting the proposal, FAPESP cited the National Institute of Science and Technology - INCT, as that from Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar, with process 2014/50918-7: INCT: FOR THE BIORATIONAL CONTROL OF INSECT PESTS AND PHYTOPATHOGENS, in this way, two students intend to transfer the knowledge developed in this INCT, making it in a language widely accessible to the public. Thus, the project proposes to create a space to bring the general public closer to the science that is developed in universities, through the creation of media, which will use research into naturally occurring biopesticides, which allow the control of Brazilian crops, reducing impacts environmental, social and economic aspects in the production chain, for example, in citriculture, where Brazil is the world leader. The students involved highlight their engagement in research projects related to biological and biorational control, seeing scientific dissemination as an opportunity to raise awareness in society about more sustainable practices in agriculture. The project is aligned with the proposal of "Comunicar Ciência", promoted by FAPESP in partnership with the Futura channel of "Fundação Roberto Marinho" and Co.liga (Free School of Creative Economy), the dissemination will take place on UFSCar's communication channels and, possibly, in FAPESP platforms. In addition to promoting awareness about sustainable practices in agriculture, participation in "Comunicar Ciência" seeks to strengthen integration between the fields of UFSCar, São Carlos and Araras, providing a broader and more diverse learning environment. The chosen approach aims to attract and involve different audiences and contribute to challenges such as academic dropout, especially after the pandemic.
