Dose-response effect of sodium montelukast on post-tooth extraction socket repair of young female mice

Abstract

Sodium montelukast (MTK) is an antagonist of cysteinyl leukotriene receptor-1 usually used for the treatment of upper airways. However, investigations have been shown its influence on bone metabolism and repair in animal models. Considering the differences in the levels of eicosanoids between biologica sex, male and female, the present study aims to evaluate the dose-effects response of MTK in alveolar bone repair of young female mice. Thirty 129 Sv/Ev female mice, average of 12 weeks of age, will be distributed in three groups, according to the treatment: C - Negative control, no treatment; MTK2 - treated with 2mg/Kg/day of MTK; and MTK4 - treated with 4mg/Kg/day of MTK. Treatment with MK will initiate 24 hours before the surgical treatment for the extraction of the upper right incisor of the animals, continuing every 24 horas until the end of the time points of 7 and 21 days after surgery. After the euthanasia, the maxillae will be retrieved and prepared for the confectioning of histoloical slices to be stained with hematoxylin and eosin for descriptive histological and quantitative analysis of the newly formed bone, and with picrosirius-red for the analysis of the quality and quantity of collagenous bone matrix. Quantitative data will undergo normality and statistical tests, considering p<0.05.
