Abstract

Introduction: Patients with advanced breast cancer face numerous challenges with antineoplastic treatment, including a decline in functional capacity, adverse effects from chemotherapy, emotional and psychological suffering, and social and financial issues aggravated by low socioeconomic status. Additionally, decisions regarding available treatments involve considerations of survival, quality of life, and clinical benefits. However, the literature lacks a study investigating the factors considered by Brazilian patients during this decision-making process. Objective: To assess the factors that may influence patients with metastatic breast cancer in deciding on antineoplastic treatment. Materials and Methods: Quantitative-qualitative study with patients with advanced breast cancer. Three questionnaires will be used (sociodemographic and clinical data, ESAS - evaluation of signs and symptoms, patient preference questionnaire - semi-structured with scores and open-ended questions). Patients should be undergoing palliative treatment (first or subsequent lines) and have luminal, HER2+, or triple-negative molecular subtype of breast cancer. Expected Results: To understand the factors that may influence the therapeutic decision-making process for Brazilian patients with advanced breast cancer in palliative care and to determine if there are differences in these opinions considering the type of healthcare facility (public and private health services).
