Abstract

Among the available and scientifically proven treatments for migraine, the use of drugs is the most efficient, but physiotherapeutic treatment has also been tested and is recommended as an adjuvant to conventional treatment, treating both the musculoskeletal repercussions associated with the disease and its clinical manifestations. To date, the evidence for the rate of responders and non-responders is focused only on pharmacological treatment and is related to efficacy and adherence. However, for non-pharmacological treatment there is no evidence for the rate of responders and non-responders, and clinical, physical, psychological and social characteristics should also be investigated as possible predictors of treatment success, regardless of the therapeutic modality. The objective of the study will be to identify and describe the predictive factors of response to treatment in patients with migraine related to clinical parameters, musculoskeletal function and disability levels, as well as related biopsychosocial factors, followed by a qualitative analysis of these aspects in patients undergoing treatment physiotherapeutic and pharmacological. This is an explanatory sequential mixed design study, whose sample will consist of 100 individuals, aged between 18 and 55 years, diagnosed with migraine. All individuals will receive pharmacological and/or physiotherapeutic treatment for migraine, and will be evaluated regarding clinical, functional and psychosocial characteristics before and after treatment, which will last 12 weeks. After defining responders and non-responders to treatment, a subgroup from each category will undergo an interview to collect their experience in relation to headache. A logistic regression model will be used to determine the most accurate set of variables for predicting treatment success and qualitative data will be analyzed via thematic analysis. It is expected that the results of this study will allow us to define the ideal set of clinical and psychosocial variables that facilitate the identification of migraine patients who will benefit from treatment, as well as identify aspects of personal experiences that may contribute to the response to treatment.
