Abstract

Techniques and equipment are being developed in order to preserve tooth structure during the removal of direct restorations. The aim of this study will be to assess whether different removal protocols for direct composite veneers can influence additional tooth wear and/or the presence of restorative material. Thirty color A3 bovine incisors will be selected, the dimensions of their crowns will be reduced to 10 x 8mm. The specimens will be divided into 3 groups according to the direct veneer removal method (diamond tip, multilaminate carbide tip, Er:Yag laser associated with Sof-lex discs) and will receive an initial scan (T0). The specimens will then be prepared for direct veneers to a depth of 0.3mm and scanned again (T1). The veneers will be made with an adhesive system and composite resin and will be removed according to the established removal methods. The specimens will then be scanned again (T2). The T1 and T2 images will be overlapped; then the areas of tooth wear and/or presence of composite resin residue, as well as the average between wear and presence of residue, will be measured using the Geomagic Control X software, with a tolerance of 0.025 mm for overlapping the images. The data will be subjected to the statistical test of normality and homogeneity. If the results pass these tests, the data will be analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-test. All analyses will be carried out at a 5% significance level.
