Abstract The discussion about the housing deficit in Brazil has permeated the academic field for years. According to more recent estimates, the deficit is around 6 million homes. Due to the high degree of urbanization of Brazilian municipalities, as a result of the spatial concentration of the population in cities, and the real estate economic obstacles to achieving one's own housing, it is to be imagined that the deficit will increase over time. But what deficit is this? Therefore, the objective of this work is to analyze the accuracy of the method consolidated by the João Pinheiro Foundation, verifying the estimate of the housing deficit from the data collected by the 2010 Demographic Census in contrast to the data collected in Quilombo Coração Valente, Jacareí-SP. It is, therefore, a research of critical and comparative analysis of the approached methodology. It is expected that the data will help future research and public housing policies. | |
