Abstract

The proposed research addresses the lack of recognition and visibility of female architects throughout the history of Brazilian architecture, with emphasis on professionals who graduated in the country in the period between 1930 and 1960, a cut proposed because it was an important moment for the development and consolidation of modern architecture in Brazil.During the proposed time frame, at least 182 women completed their architecture training in Brazil, however, and although some have received some degree of recognition, the historical narrative generally neglects their substantial contributions. The canonical literature, which forms the basis of teaching and research in architecture, also suffers from a lack of female representation. The absence of women in historical narratives leads to distortions in the perception of architecture and the profession, and the lack of female references affects the teaching and practice of architecture, perpetuating gender inequalities. In this context a research is proposed on the production and practice of female architects trained in the country during the period between 1930 and 1960. With the aim of systematically listing, analyzing and discussing design solutions, design techniques and the use of materials that may be considered unprecedented and innovative for the time, seeking to establish new and more diverse possibilities of models and references for students and professionals of architecture and contributing to a more complete, realistic and diverse narrative of the history of Brazilian architecture.
