Abstract

Recently, a new class of Ti-based implants has been in full development and is characterized by exhibiting functional gradients. Functional Gradient Materials or MGFs correspond to materials with continuous or discrete variations in structure and/or composition, which result in property variations along their dimensions. These variations aim to combine antagonistic behaviors that are not seen in homogeneous materials. This work aims to produce and characterize Ti-Nb-Ta alloy samples with functional gradients using the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) technique. The aim is to obtain samples with variations in elastic modulus along their dimensions. It is also intended to investigate the correlation between microstructure and process parameters, in particular, the effect of laser beam power and scanning speed on defect formation and crystallographic texture.
