Abstract Introduction: Lung or head and neck cancers have a high incidence and mortality in Brazil and worldwide. Among the treatments, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are commonly used, and can cause adverse effects on the health of individuals, such as decreased muscle strength and increased anxiety and depression. Considering the benefits of combined training (aerobic and resistance) and the limitations of going to the rehabilitation center, home physical training can be a viable alternative to minimize the impacts of the disease and cancer treatment. Aim: To analyze data collected on peripheral muscle strength and anxiety and depression of individuals with lung or primary head and neck cancer undergoing an aerobic and resistance home physical training protocol. Methods: This is a secondary study to a project in which individuals with lung or primary head and neck cancer undergoing usual oncological treatment are undergoing a home physical training protocol. For this proposal, peripheral muscle strength has been assessed using digital dynamometry and symptoms of anxiety and depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Assessments take place one week before the start of cancer treatment and two weeks after completion. Patients are being randomized into: GT (Training Group) and CG (Control Group). The GT performs aerobic training through daily walks and resistance training using elastic bands, twice a week, both in a home environment associated with usual cancer treatment (radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy). Training begins one week before the start of cancer treatment and ends two weeks after its completion. The GC only undergoes the usual oncological treatment and continues with his usual activities of daily living. Statistical analysis: The normality of the data will be checked using the Shapiro-Wilk test. For intra-group and inter-group analyzes of the baseline and final moments of GT and CG, the Student t test or Mann-Whitney test will be used depending on the normality of the data. | |
