Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an effective and widely used treatment that involves multidisciplinary care for people with chronic lung diseases. Adults with asthma are eligible for PR; however, they are often either unplanned or difficult to participate in. Many economic factors account for this incongruity, but few attempts have been made to structure PR to better serve these individuals, resulting in the mission of international asthma guidelines. Objectives: This study aims to develop a PR model for people with asthma developed by national and international patients and experts. Methods: The project will be developed in four phases: (1) identification of priority issues reported by the patient; (2) Discussions with experts about possible PR adaptations. This phase will involve 2 workshops (3 hours each) held remotely to discuss the points identified in phase 1; (3) Formulate an expert consensus (this phase will involve research using the Delphi model); (4) Develop a "best practices" research protocol from phase 1 and 2 consensus results for a future clinical trial involving structured PR for asthma.
