Abstract

A pre-analysis of the sources revealed that the conceptual field of the right to correction expanded in the late 18th century. Until then, correcting was often used as a synonym for punishing. The afflictive penalties and tortures applied to the body of the guilty, typical of a criminal law based on intimidation, give way to sweeter penalties that aim to regenerate the person of the condemned person. However, this philosophy of correction will coexist with that of punishment for a long time to come. The scholarship holder's task will be to test these two types of conception - corrective and punitive - in establishments for minor apprentices in the armed forces.
