Abstract

LDH systems have a versatility in their composition that can represent an advantage in the introduction of different polyvalent ions in their layers. This characteristic is very important for certain applications. Rare earth ions (TR3+) can be introduced into the original structure of LDHs resulting in the formation of a TR3+-based material with optimized optical properties. Some TR3+ are known for their luminescent properties being sensitive to temperatures, i.e., it is possible to monitor the temperature variation of a medium by observing the luminescence of materials based on these ions. The use of luminescent thermometers presents an excellent relationship between temperature and luminescence and consequently the possibility of obtaining the temperature of a given process without direct contact. Therefore, the proposal of this work is to prepare LDHs with TR3+ ions and study the relationship between temperature and luminescence of these materials.
