Abstract Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a multifactorial condition, with the severity of its impact directly proportional to the reduction in exercise tolerance. Marked by periods of stability and exacerbation, COPD negatively affects respiratory symptoms, functional capacity, and cardiovascular risks-factors that limit exercise capacity. Physical rehabilitation is paramount in COPD management, and understanding motivational levels is crucial for exercise adherence, especially during exacerbation. Objective: To investigate motivational levels and self-efficacy for exercise among COPD patients in exacerbation, exploring correlations with their quality of life and assessing whether quality of life predicts motivational levels/self-efficacy.Methodology: Cross-sectional observational study with data collected from hospitalized patients diagnosed with COPD exacerbation. Assessments will occur pre- hospital discharge, with a sample size of 29 participants. Patients will undergo cognitive assessments (Mini-Mental State Examination) and respond to EuroQol (EQ-5D-3L), Behavioral Regulation in Exercise - Questionnaire 2 (BREQ-2), Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale (BPNES), and The COPD Self-Efficacy Scale. Statistical analyses will utilize SPSS (version 25.0, IBM®, United States) with a significance level of 5%. Hypothesis: It is hypothesized that exists an inversely proportional relationship between quality of life and motivation levels among hospitalized COPD patients during exacerbation. | |
