Public policies, agroforestry systems and the socioeconomic and ecological impacts on the Ipanema rural settlement in Iperó-SP

Abstract

Family farming in Brazil is marked by various vulnerabilities, ranging from the struggle for land, with an emphasis on the achievement of rural settlements, to the difficulty in accessing public policies developed for small farmers, with their participation, and which contribute to the solution of socioeconomic and ecological problems. Thus, one of the means to strengthen these family initiatives is the implementation of agroforestry systems, which can ensure greater resilience to agroecosystems in the context of climate change, as well as contribute to mitigating global warming; promote food sovereignty; encourage fair trade, among other socio-environmental benefits. Therefore, this project aims to study the implementation of agroforestry systems in the Ipanema rural settlement, in Iperó/SP, through the Projeto de Desenvolvimento Rural Sustentável (PDRS), a public policy instrument that has benefited several settlements in the state of São Paulo. From this study, it will be possible to analyze the impacts of this instrument on the settlement plots, focusing on three systemic attributes foreseen by the Método LUME, which will be used for data collection and understanding: autonomy, responsiveness, and social integration.
