Abstract

Plaque psoriasis is a skin inflammatory disease that involves changes in the intestinal microbiota (dysbiosis) in its pathogenesis. Mechanisms include disruption of the intestinal barrier, with the translocation of microbial fragments and metabolites, leading to systemic immune system activation. The origin of intestinal dysbiosis is still not well understood, but it is known to involve both endogenous factors, such as ethnicity, and modifiable exogenous factors, such as diet. The objective of this study is to characterize bacterial dysbiosis in Brazilian patients with psoriasis and correlate it with dietary intake. Fecal samples from 20 patients with plaque psoriasis and 20 healthy individuals will be studied. The analysis of the intestinal microbiota composition will be performed using 16S genetic sequencing techniques. In parallel, dietary intake data will be obtained through the application of 3 dietary recalls of 24 hours, one of which will be on the weekend, and correlated with the fecal bacterial profile. The data from this study could help design new therapeutic approaches for Brazilian patients, targeting the intestinal microbiota.
