Abstract

Introduction: The Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, proposed by the World Health Organization, has the mission to "drive policies, strategies and actions, based on science, experience, systems design and partnerships, to eliminate all sources of avoidable risk and harm to patients and healthcare workers". Emphasizing the need to mitigate adverse events (AE), reduce the personal, social and economic impact of the damage, promote strategies for patient safety, becoming a priority for health systems around the world. However, when the event occurs, it is necessary to recognize consequences, related to the health professional involved in the situation, and the institution, which have to deal with the legal consequences and exposure in the media, considered second and third victims. Promoting emotional support to professionals reduces the negative impact and favors the return of professional activities. Support networks can bring benefits not only to the health professional, but also to the institution, generating the possibility of organizational learning. In Brazil, there are numerous initiatives developed to promote a safety culture in institutions, but they are still insufficient to advance issues related to the management of AEs and the consequences for patients and professionals. Objective: To analyze institutional initiatives on AE management and the consequences for patients and professionals. Method: Descriptive, exploratory and quantitative research; The study location will be a highly complex hospital institution in the city of São Paulo. The population will be made up of nursing professionals who agree to participate in the research. A questionnaire will be used with structured questions and in an electronic format available on GoogleForms, allowing the extraction of data into an Excel spreadsheet for tabulation and statistical analysis. The quantitative data will be consolidated by the tool itself and tabulated in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for analysis using the SPSS v.18.0.0 software. Ethical procedures for research in Brazil will be respected. The project was approved by the Teaching, Research and Extension Committee of Hospital São Paulo - Hospital Universitário da Unifesp and also by the Ethics and Research Committee, according to CAAE 77603924.6.0000.5505 - opinion number 7.003.086. The participation of those involved in the research will be done by signing the Free and Informed Consent Form.
